Hey James, I admire and appreciate your work, but I feel that calling Apple “an arrogant dictator of podcasting” here may go a little too far. iTunes categories are there for Apple’s own benefit, and they reside under the xmlns:itunes schema and aren’t part of a broader rss standard. I believe many hosts support these tags because at one time they were required to submit a podcast to iTunes, but beyond that I am unaware the harm category changes have. I feel like overall, Apple has been a very good steward to podcasting. For a company that charges $999 for a monitor stand, they have resisted the urge to exploit podcasting for a long time.
